This suspenseful story centers on revenge. Esmie gets a job as a cleaner for three different houses. As she cleans, she learns many of the secrets the connected house owners reveal. She is covertly there to avenge what happened to her brother when he was staying with one of them. She is hoping that since they aren’t aware of her relationship to her brother that they will let their guard down around her. What are the connections between all of these people? This is what Esmie needs to find out. It is clear there are different rules for people depending on their standing in society, as is evidenced by this group and their thoughts toward her. As Esmie learns more and becomes more entwined in their relationships, the suspense increases. There are some wonderful twists along the way. My only complaint would be that the book was a bit long in places, but overall it definitely kept my interest throughout. This book was very impressive for this author’s debut adult novel.
