I loved this book! Nadia has recently discovered why she has been debilitated by various health ailments lately. She has lupus, which is not a diagnosis anyone wants to hear. She retreats to her family’s summer vacation house on the Jersey Shore and works part-time at a vegetable stand. She has left her previous life behind and wants a smaller and less stressful way of living. Her rheumatologist sets her up with his nephew, and Marco turns out to be much more than she was expecting. He is a former bad boy actor, and he turns Nadia’s life upside down. Since Marco is only in town until the end of May, they agree to a month-long no-commitment relationship. Marco and Nadia have a great time together, and since her health is a bit more stabilized at the moment, she doesn’t tell him about the lupus. Of course, this all crashes down around her when she doesn’t take her meds properly, and lupus strikes with a vengeance, and she ends up in the hospital. She wants to shut Marco out and end their relationship when this happens. Will Marco walk away? This is a well-written book, and I loved all the characters. Marco is an amazing book boyfriend, and the relationship and connection between him and Nadia is really special and delightful. Their dialogue was very entertaining! My heart went out to Nadia with all she was experiencing with having to accept living with a chronic illness and the changes this has made to her life. Overall, a beautifully written and heartfelt book with humour, love, and some hard issues and choices.
